About Marshall Abram Car Garage Ormskirk
It all began in 1964 when Reg Marshall, garage foreman & John Abram, head mechanic at Balmforths, Ormskirk decided to set up and go it alone as Marshall Abram Garage. It didn’t take long for word to get round that they’d taken the plunge and work seemed to flood in, these guys we’re well known in Ormskirk for their expertise.
After 12 months of successful trading from the site they’d rented, they bought their own premises and moved to Burscough Street, Ormskirk – Which is where they still trade from today. In 1973 Reg Marshall made the decision to sell up and move to New Zealand with his family, so John set about finding a new partner to work with. John needed someone with equivalent experience as Reg. Walter Postlethwaite was now foreman at Balmforths and he and John had worked together in earlier years, it was the perfect solution and Walter bought into Marshall Abram Garage in October 1973.
Walter brought fresh ideas into the partnership and by 1979 they had expanded the workshop and become one of Ormskirk’s approved MOT testing centres. The business grew from strength to strength, 10 years went by during which they took on extra mechanics and apprentices to deal with demand. It was 1989 when John retired due to ill health and Walter bought the business outright, his wife Angela joined the team and took on the book-keeping and account management. It was a happy, family run workplace that both the staff and customers enjoyed. Walter and Angela’s 2nd son Andrew was a motor vehicle fanatic and accompanied his father to work from a young age. On leaving school Andrew attended college to study mechanics and later began his apprenticeship at Ormskirk Ford to gain experience away from the family set up. It was 1996 when Andrew joined Marshall Abram Garage with the intention of eventually taking over, under the watchful eye of his father Andrew worked hard in all areas of the garage from the brushing up to the servicing and admin management. In 2004 Walter retired to spend more time at home with his horses and on his beloved hobby of gliding. Andrew was made company director and continued to run the business along side his mother Angela. The mother and son team worked well and the garage continued to grow from strength to strength, Andrew had further ramps fitted and employed 2 more apprentices. In 2012 Angela also joined Walter in retirement and handed over to Andrew, who runs the Ormskirk garage today. Andrew has re branded the business recently and continues to manage the garage as his father did, with the highest standard of customer service and quality at the heart of every day.
